News: AP Releases Its FIRST Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar In Blue Ceramic
The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak is one of the most famous and sought-after luxury watches out there. The brainchild of the iconic designer, Gerald Genta, it kickstarted the luxury steel sports watch genre, inspiring other favourites such as the Patek Philippe Nautilus, which was also designed by Genta.
Although the AP Royal Oak is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, it still has some firsts to unleash, such as these two new-kids-on-the-block, both in lightweight, scratch-proof ceramic.
Firstly, there’s the new electric-blue ceramic Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar. The first of its kind from AP in this colour and material, it features the signature “Grande Tapisserie” patterned dial and has four sub dials comprising day, date, month, moonphase and leap year indications, as well as a 52-week scale on the chapter ring that is read by an arrow-tipped date-pointer.
Powering this new piece is the in-house calibre 5134, an automatic movement with 38 jewels, 19,800 vph and a power reserve of 40 hours.
Secondly is the first black ceramic AP Royal Oak Chronograph. This model exudes a more classic yet rugged look, via its all-black appearance. The dial also features the “Grande Tapisserie” pattern, as well as three chronograph sub dials with contrasting rose gold details that also appear on the hour hands and markers.
The movement that powers this piece is the automatic in-house calibre 4401, which features 40 jewels, 28,800 vph and a power reserve of 70 hours. This particular model also flaunts a special "50 years" anniversary rotor.
Both watches come fit with the Royal Oak’s classic integrated bracelet in ceramic and the correlating colours, of course.
