The Rolex Oyster Perpetual has a storied heritage that began in the early twentieth century. Since then it’s become a symbol of luxury and precision, coveted by Rolex fans and watch enthusiasts across the globe.


Unveiled in 1926, the Rolex Oyster was the first waterproof wristwatch in the world. Its groundbreaking design featured a hermetically sealed case, known as the Oyster case, which offered unrivalled protection against water and dust. This innovative approach revolutionised and set new standards for the watchmaking industry.


It became the Oyster Perpetual when in 1931 its manual-wind movement was replaced by a self-winding one, guaranteeing uninterrupted running.


Over the decades, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual has been worn by many notable individuals and witnessed significant historical events. The most noteworthy wearer of the Oyster Perpetual was the British swimmer Mercedes Gleitze, who became the first woman to swim the English Channel in 1927. Although Gleitze didn’t wear her Oyster Perpetual on her record-breaking swim, she did wear it on the prior attempts. Each time, the Rolex watch emerged from the icy-cold waters unscathed and in perfect working order.

Consider the Oyster Perpetual 31 or 28 if you prefer smaller timepieces or have a daintier wrist.


The Oyster Perpetual’s appeal extends to its range of dial colours and designs, too, making it a favourite among celebrities in recent years. One of the most sought-after recent versions is the eye-catching “Tiffany blue” model, as well as the colourful “Celebration” model released in 2023 whose dial features colourful bubbles .
